We all have daily routines.  These routines by their very nature are habits.  The thing about habits is they are very comfortable.

Grab a pencil and paper so you can actually do the work in this post.  Got it?  Okay, then please take the following actions.  Don’t even look at the next action until you complete the one you’re working on.

  • List 10 things you do every working day.  Don’t worry about the order just the first 10 things you think of that you do every day related to business.  It might be things like checking your email and voice mail.
  • Review your list and circle the things you listed that are directly linked to earning sales.  Not the things that could lead to sales but the things that are part of your sales process that you know produce sales.
  • What 1 thing could you do every day that would dramatically impact your sales?  Is that one thing an action?  Then write this action on your list.
  • Just writing it down isn’t enough.  How could  you add that 1 action to you daily routine?  Develop a plan to remove obstacles and challenges so you can add that 1 action to your daily routine.
  • What would it take to commit to taking that action every working day for the next 30 working days?  How will you hold yourself accountable for taking that action?  How will you monitor and track progress?  Set these triggers to ensure your commitment turns into daily action.

Now open your calendar to 30 days from today.  What outcomes do you anticipate as a result of your new daily habit?  Write that target outcome on that day in your calendar.

While habits are comfortable they aren’t necessarily productive or rewarding.  Make sure your new habit fits the bill on both counts.
